Kiddo Lifestyle | Mikayla at 7 months
{ 7 months already! Where has the time gone? }
Sleeping: Mikayla is now sleeping through the night (or waking once for a nursing occasionally). I think ever since she figured out that she could sleep on her belly… she’s been sleeping so much better. At first I was totally nervous to watch her flip onto her belly with her face in the mattress, and would go in to flip her onto her back again. Shortly after she’d flip back onto her stomach. But by 6 months she has enough control over her body to get her face to the side for breathing and sleeps so peacefully. I can’t blame her… I’m a stomach sleeper as well. I just had to let go and trust that she’ll breathe.
Eating: She is now eating a variety of veggies & fruits including sweet potato, pumpkin, avocado, carrots, squash, broccoli, applesauce, pear, plum, banana & prunes. She’s down to 5-6 nursings a day now, but is always demanding her purees by large quantity, and fast. She huffs and puffs when I try to slow her eating down by refilling the spoon at a slower rate. She always has oatmeal or puree in her ears, eyes, nose and those neck rolls. She’s recently graduated to trying out puffs. It’s so fun to watch her attempt to pick them up and get her tiny fingers to work. She gets frustrated for sure after a few failed attempts. After she masters the puffs, we’ll be introducing her to more solid foods which I know she’s excited for.
Playing: Mikayla is a huge fan of BabyFirst TV. She loves learning vocabulary with Larry the parrot, finding the acorns, and playing peek-a-boo with the cute little blue character who hides. She’s recently found how much she loves her walker. Ever since 6 months rolled around, she’s been cruising through the living room happy as can be. The poor girl just wanted to move to where she wanted to… however, that means we need to work on child-proofing the house since she’s now reaching out to things at a higher level. She also has taken a liking to her jumper now that she can really jump and go crazy in it. I’ve learned that she is the happiest in the evenings during her fussy period, when she can simply sit on the floor and play with her toys. She can now sit up on her own which has really been a game-changer. We still keep a boppy behind her just in case. It’s a nice way to unwind from the day, and I can just sit back and watch her explore and figure out how the toys work. It’s so fun to watch their minds go, and you always wonder what they’re thinking. She still loves when her daddy changes her diaper, and loves when we make new sounds. One can never turn down the possibility of baby giggles. She loves to play with her toes, her diapers (clean ones that is), Mommy’s necklace, paper, touching new fabric, and the newest thing – flexing her thumb joint on my arm. She’ll do it over and over again. It feels so strange, but I guess she’s simply observing the fact that she can bend her thumb now.
Personality: She still is her sassy self, but has really been trying out new fun facial expressions and more sweet moments these last 2 months. She loves cuddles when she’s sleepy, which I know the days are fleeting. Her personality is really starting to grow more and she’s become so much fun to interact with. She definitely reserves her happy, outgoing, fun self for the safety of her own home for now. Many others still only get the serious face/staredown/”I’m not sure what you’re doing looking at me” look. To those of you… I’m sorry. You really have to work hard for her smiles, but it’s so worth it.
I wasn’t ever ready for her to reach 6 months… but that has come and gone, and here we are at 7 months. These 7 months have been the happiest of my life. I never knew a greater love until I became a mama. I’ve always heard of it, and now I know. Happy 7 months beautiful. We love you so very much! xoxo
