Kiddo Lifestyle | Audrey at 1 month
Sleeping: She’s been extremely sleepy for much of her daytime hours, especially the first three weeks. You could put Audrey down into the napping pad on the dining table & she would have been happy just lying there. No shushing, rocking, vibrating, etc. needed. Lately, she’s been needing a bit more of the swing to keep her happy, and most definitely within the last few days, she’s been needing us to hold her more often to get her to sleep. For the most part, she’s been napping in the rock ‘n play downstairs, or the swing in her room. At nights, she sleeps in the rock ‘n play next to my side of the bed. We haven’t been able to swaddle her since she still has her pavlik harness on, but thankfully she hasn’t seemed to need any swaddling. She does sleep with a sleep sack which conveniently wraps around her harness. For most nights, she’ll give me a 3-4 hour stretch before waking to nurse. We’ve had a few rough nights however, where she may have been up wanting to nurse every 1.5-2 hours, and then refusing to go back to sleep without being simply held or rocked.
Eating: She’s nursing 8-9 times a day. Thankfully, Audrey was a nice & easy “latcher” since birth. I was so sore & in pain when I was nursing Mikayla by this point, that this experience has been so refreshing. The only issues I’ve struggled with for Audrey, have been that she’s simply too tired to keep awake. It definitely makes it difficult to sometimes get her to nurse on both sides per feeding. I’ve also had oversupply & a fast letdown to work through. My lactation consultant suggested that I cut the first side down to just 5 minutes & slow her feedings down by stopping her more often to burp. Then I allow her to finish out the second side as long as she wants. It only took a few days of doing this per feeding for my supply to finally regulate. I felt terrible as I was drowning the poor girl & then she’d spit everything up. It seems that she’s been more gassy & uncomfortable throughout the days, so hopefully, with the help of probiotics, her gut health soon levels itself out as well. I’m so relieved that things have finally regulated & our nursing experience is going much smoother now. I do feel like she is growing rapidly, so I’ll be curious to see just how much Audrey now weighs at her 1 month checkup tomorrow.
Personality: It will definitely be interesting to see how Audrey’s personality plays out over the next couple of months. She seems laid back & more go-with-the-flow in general, right from birth. She smiled up at us pretty early on, I’d say by the second week of her life even. Within the last week, she has definitely started analyzing my face more & giving us the biggest smiles. Along with also responding more to touch & following our voice, she’s been starting to coo which is simply adorable.
At her 3 week orthopedic checkup, the doctor said that her left hip showed less clicking. Progress has been made! She grew so much since the harness was 1st put on, that they really had to loosen it to give her little legs room to move.
Happy 1 month my sweet one. We are enjoying watching you grow. xoxo
